Stone Sculptures
The various communities in the Canadian Arctic provide most of the stone used by the sculptors. The green serpentine from Baffin Island, hard basalt from the western side of the Hudson Bay and the steatite found in the Arctic Quebec region all provide the sculptors with abundant material. Finding new stone caches was and continues to this day to be a challenge requiring importation of suitable stone.
When viewing the bone and stone collections please note that size relationship between sculptures are not proportionate.
